The Fall of the Four Horsemen, 3

To stay alive Charli Smythe must live by a set of well-defined rules. Keeping her psychic ability a secret and avoiding relationships has kept her ahead of the danger from her past. It leads to a lonely existence. One that’s threatened the moment she meets Judge.

Judge Martin is the alpha of the local mountain lion pride, and the head of security at the hotel and casino he owns with his brothers. He makes the rules and expects them to be followed. His well-ordered world is thrown into disarray the moment he meets his mate. Within hours, she steals his car and runs from him.

On finding her, secrets are revealed. Secrets that threaten his relationship with one of his brothers. Can Judge prove her worthiness as his mate to Devil and protect her from the danger that lurks in the shadows before it’s too late? Or will she be stolen from his life permanently?

Be Warned: spanking

Excerpt:

“Get your hands off my mate, Devil!”

Did he just say what she thought he had said? She had heard the term “mate” before. Her limited knowledge suggested that if this fiercely gorgeous man spoke the truth then her life was about to become a lot more complicated. Could she truly be destined to live out her life with him as his fated mate?

“Well, I didn’t see that one coming,” she mumbled to herself in shock. Though she shouldn’t have been too surprised. Her ability rarely gifted her with insight into her own future.

“Charli?” asked another man. He was the one she had come to see—Nikki’s boyfriend.

As soon as her attention landed on him, she was brought back to the reason she had come here. “Please tell me she’s here, safe,” she all but pleaded.

“She’s at work. Why? What have you seen?” Nikki’s boyfriend asked.

Before she could respond, the man claiming to be her mate angrily demanded, “What the fuck’s going on, Viper? How do you know my mate?” Charli felt his anger. It rolled off of him in volatile waves.

The man she now knew as Viper curled his fingers into his palm as he moved his focus away from her. “This is Nikki’s friend from the hospital. The one who warned her about Watson being at her house. Now stop interrupting while I find out what the hell she knows.”

He looked back at her and waited. It was time to find out whether Emily’s vision and her own sense of feeling were correct. “Can you contact her?”

“I can call the hospital. Our link has been blocked be her privacy wall.”

Charli focused, forcing all of her energy on finding Nikki. She once again hit darkness. She was barely aware of mumbling, “Not wall, unconsciousness.”

Then the answer came to her. A face flashed through her mind. It was one she had seen before when she’d warned Nikki of a man’s presence in her house—the same man that had previously hurt Nikki.

“He has her! His plans are unclear, muffled by his anger,” Charli informed flatly. The fear and pain she saw in the not-too-distant future dampened her emotions, leaving her cold.

As she willed her body to allow warmth once again to be carried by her blood, heating her from the inside, she became aware of Gabby talking on the phone. All eyes seemed to be on her. Whatever was being said to Gabby had her distress increasing.

Once she had hung up, Viper asked, “What did they say?”

“Nikki got a call down to the ER. There was an emergency out at the prison. Sharon, my boss, didn’t realize that she hadn’t made it until I asked. No one has seen her,” Gabby said, turning into the arms of the man Charli had heard being called Devil. It was a name that suited him. “That was a couple of hours ago. He’s got her, hasn’t he? He’s going to kill her this time.”

The fourth man present, a giant by anyone’s standards, asked, “What are you feeling, Viper?”

“Pissed off!”

“No, I meant from Nikki?” the giant pushed.

Silence followed as Viper tried to connect with Nikki. Charli felt the nudges against her own mind, but that was only because she was trying to remain connected to Nikki. Finally his shoulders stiffened. His back became ramrod and pure fury seeped from every one of Viper’s pores.

“Charli’s right, she’s unconscious,” he replied, turning back to her. “What else do you know?”

Once again closing her mind off to everything that wasn’t Nikki, an image rose in her mind. A dank, empty building appeared. It looked like the industrial area over near Henderson. Her job had taken her over there a few times. Thankfully if she was right, it was only about twenty minutes away.

“I think I can find her,” she replied. “But I’m going to have to show you. It’s a feeling, nothing more.”

“Like hell you’re putting yourself in danger, mate,” her supposed mate snapped. He had moved to stand in front of her. “Paul Watson is dangerous. I won’t have you anywhere near him.”

That pissed her off. She had sworn long ago that no man would dictate her actions again. And here this gorgeous yet infuriating man was trying to do exactly that. Standing on the tips of her toes, she decided to take the fight straight to him, ensuring there would be no misunderstandings.

“Listen here, you overgrown buffoon. I consider Nikki a friend—something I have very few of—and I don’t plan on abandoning her when she needs me just because you said so. I’ve dealt with danger most of my life. This is nothing new to me!”

“Danger? What fucking danger?” he demanded. His body began to physically shake, while movement appeared under the skin on his face. It suddenly dawned on her. He was a shifter. One who was about to change forms.

“That’s none of your business!” Charli replied quickly before stepping back toward Viper.

Her progress was halted by Judge’s hand on her arm. “You’re my mate. That makes it my business!”

Long and Short Reviews

Welcome To Sin City and The Fall Of The Four Horsemen. What an awesome hook for the series and this fantastic story. I was completely pulled into the drama and truly enjoyed everything, the romance, the excitement and suspense that had me gripped right up until the end. This book was Judge and Charli’s story. The main couple connected easily but with a little bit of drama since Charli had been stealing from the casino that Judge and his horsemen brothers owned. Charli was no stranger to the paranormal world so it was no stretch to her when Judge declared that they were mates. However, she promptly stole his car and ran away because she needed to protect her little sister and keep her troubles away from Judge and his people. Of course, the determined alpha male tracked her down and from there the reunion was seamless but not without a fair bit of conflict. There was some tension with one of his brothers and danger from Charli’s past, and even then the suspense wasn’t quite over yet. Mated To War is actually the third book in this series but it was my first adventure with the four horsemen as they find their mates. Even so I had no trouble catching up and that was because the author did an incredible job with creating the world. My introduction to everyone was subtle and on spot with the steady flow of the series. I got to know the characters and then their history which is the best way and the one I’m most comfortable with reading. This book was a great read. The characters were wonderful and the writing style was excellent. Of course, the suspenseful plot was the main reason that I liked the story so much. Also, the story had a intriguing set up for the next book in the series with Chaos and I have to say that I am really looking forward to reading that one. So all in all, Mated To War was a winner with this happy reader !

Good one

It's an excellent book. The relationship between Charli and Judge is complex and so simple at the same time. I knew it! Jewel is Chaos' mate. I'm waiting their story and the conclusion of the kidnappings.

LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't often write reviews of books but this book I loved. The relationship between Charli & Judge was awesome. You could tell she really loved her sister and vice versa. Charli you could tell was a strong person who was protecting her sister above all else. She showed love and gave it back to others. The love Judge had for her allowed him to continue to keep her in his life and her sister. He became a family man without any issues.

a beautifully brilliant whirlwind that will sweep you off your feet
Written by Shadowplay on 19th Jan 2016

Mated to War is a beautifully brilliant whirlwind that will sweep you off your feet and never allow you to feel the ground. I lost my mind and my heart to this wonderfully imaginative world once again, and I have no regret. Being able to revisit these breathtaking characters was such a wonderful gift and an immense pleasure. I loved watching their lives continue to evolve and progress before my eyes. These characters and their amazing stories have deeply touched my heart in a way that is so hard to describe but so easy to feel and cherish. Charli Smythe knows how to always be vigilant and on her guard in order to keep herself and her sister safe. She doesn’t know how to feel safe or truly live, but perhaps one day that dream might come true. In the meantime, she does what she can to keep herself hidden in plain sight while watching her back. What she doesn’t expect or want is Judge Martin. He tells her that her future is filled with good things that she can’t even begin to imagine let alone allow herself to dream about. She can’t let herself get distracted by promises, but she can’t deny that his words and intentions carry with them a ring of truth that she feels all the way to her very soul. Can she walk away from such a powerfully undeniable future, or will she come to her senses and continue running before her past catches up with her? Charli and Judge took me completely by surprise, but I loved every minute of it. They come from two different worlds, but that didn’t stop them from listening to their hearts. However, they never failed to balance reality from dreams when faced with difficult decisions. They counted the cost and then they made a decision that was best for everyone involved. Selfess and stubborn, Charli usually chose to walk her path alone, but Judge refused to allow his heart to walk alone. He stood by her no matter the danger that lurked in the shadows, and for that he deserved all the happiness that Charli and her sister brought to his life. Emma Anderson is a truly remarkable author who has won my life-long devotion as a reader. Her heart and her soul whispers truth and radiates hope throughout this story. You can’t read this book and walk away the same. Your heart will come away with new vision and new sight as it looks at the world around you. These are the types of stories that have not only made a reader but have also kept me a reader over the years. Without the fire that springs forth from these pages, my heart would wither up and die with no fuel or passion to motivate and drive it. This is my heart’s lifeblood, and I can’t wait to see how she stokes it next time.
