Fairy Mafia, 7

Jorja thought her uncle was a somewhat honorable man and her debt to him was paid. However, when her uncle insists Jorja put her own wife and kids' lives at risk to save his own, she refuses. She didn’t expect him to go after her family.

Jena is on edge and insisting she’s being watched, so Jorja takes steps to uncover the problem because if her wife’s not happy how can she be. Learning fire assassins have targeted her wife, Jorja sets out to learn who hired them and why. But before she can find out who, Jena is attacked sending her into labor. Jorja expected to lose one child but never two.

Now, all bets are off. The black diamond is powering up, and she’s ready to blaze a path of destruction even if it’s through her own family.

Be Warned: f/f sex

Excerpt:

His niece had been among them. She hadn’t responded, which annoyed him enough that he’d already activated the warning shot that should get her attention.

“What are you doing about it?” Jackson asked. He knew his nephew had a good head on his shoulders, could run things in Washington if worse came to worse. However, he was certain that wouldn’t happen.

“We’ve put out feelers, but nothing is coming back. I’m concerned that we won’t be able to take too many more hits like that without some help coming.”

“I’m taking care of things, but Jorja hasn’t responded to my call yet.”

“She has to help,” Race insisted.

“I’ve sent her an email, but she hasn’t responded,” he said. “So, I’m putting some other plans in place. You and Javelin will be in charge of handling things on that end.”

“Course,” Race responded quickly. “Tell me what you want?”

“Give me a minute,” he said closing the email app. There was still no reply from that whelp. So, he picked up the phone on his desk and dialed her number. If she didn’t answer…

“Hello?” Jorja’s voice was crisp as it came on the line.

“Hello, Jorja,” Jackson said in a congenial tone. “How are you enjoying married life?”

“Just fine,” she said. “How are you, Uncle?”

“I’m recovering from an attack,” he said. “I heard your wife was pregnant. You engaged a surrogate before the wedding?”

There was a brief silence, and he assumed she was distracted.

“Is everything okay?” she asked in a tone just a hair shy of cool.

“How is your bride?”

“Jennifer is doing fine,” she answered. “Uncle, it’s early. Is there a reason for the call?”

There was a hint of concern in her voice that drew a smile to his lips.

“Did you get my emails?” he asked.

“No. I’ve been distracted with business,” she responded.

“I am going to send Race to see you,” he said. “I can’t get away just now myself, but I have need of more healing stones. I’m sure you have at least one more. With your wife doing well, surely you can spare it.”

“The only set I have is embedded in Jennifer,” she told him.

“I need it,” Jackson insisted evenly. “My own family is in danger. A family that sheltered you in your time of need, that came to your aid, to Jennifer’s.”

“That won’t be possible,” Jorja told him, a chill around her words. “I won’t take risks with the lives of my wife and children. Someone has already tried to kill them once.”

“Then, you must have given chips to Casey and Sidony. You must have one yourself.”

“Uncle Jackson, this conversation is inappropriate considering I’ve paid my debt to you,” Jorja rebutted.

“Race will arrive tomorrow morning. I’m sure once you’ve had a chance to hear him out, you’ll be more than forthcoming,” he said. “Also, I need the Blade of Golden Tears.” The blade was a deadly family relic that was a warrior’s weapon with chips of the warrior’s stones embedded in the metal.

The warrior’s stones would imbue him with great strength and increase his magic allowing him to defeat the enemy.

“Didn’t—”

“As the elder and a male, it is my right to request the dagger, and not only do I request it, I expect Race to bring it to me along with the warrior’s stones. I know you have them.”

“Uncle—”

“No arguments, Jorja,” he snapped. “I mean it.” He ended the call. “When you get there, Race, don’t take no for an answer even if you have to kill her bride and wound her.”

“Jennifer’s pregnant. If I go after her, this could be war.”

“She’ll see reason,” Jackson told him. “She’s part of this family and that woman and child are hers only because I allow it. So be prepared to go after the woman and child. Can you do that?”

“Yes.”

Jorja would give him the help he needed, or he’d ensure his contacts in the federal government were able to arrest and detain her while he rained chaos on her wife and left her empire in tatters.

Serenity Snow has given us a wonderful series. It is nice that some characters return in other parts of this series, so that it keeps your attention with each story. Just when you think things can't get any better, you get another story and you notice things can get even better.

Diamond on Fire

With Jena pregnant, Jorga is over the moon and ultra protective of her wife/mate. Calm and serenity won't last long. Serenity Snow's plot pushes family loyalties and the grasp for power laced with greed lingers in the shadows. Hounds, wolves, bears, goblins, fairies, fire and water - blood is spilled and death inevitable but surely the babies are safe! Nothing is more dangerous than the Black Diamond when her wife is threatened. Alliances are made and friends step up. I read quickly wanting Jorga's family to be safe and penance paid regardless of familial bond. This is an intriguing series blending deep love with magic and violence ever close to a peaceful surface. Has the inner wolf found her calm.....what comes next?

Fast paced, lots of drama

You catch more flies with honey; this is a concept Jorja has either never heard of or simply doesn't care for. Vicious and suspicious of pretty much everyone, you could be easily convinced she's a monster through and through. However, there is a moment where she utters the most beautiful eulogy I have ever read/heard. Love this book and can't wait for more.
