Woollybah Creek, 3

Dani Donahue is new to town. She’s a city girl there for a week to clear out the house she inherited. Her arrival has caused an uproar, residents debating whether she will keep the house or sell to an outsider, which could mean the end of the small town.

Brett Marshall is a gruff pub owner who keeps to himself and stays out of people’s business. Until Dani shatters his quiet existence. He’s a country boy twice her age and hides a heart of gold.

Dani and Brett may be from different worlds but they have more in common than they’d first thought. With an offer of half a mil it seems a done deal.

Unless there was something to keep her in Woollybah Creek…

Excerpt:

Parking beside the house, Dani released Sky from her seat and set her down. Brett’s headlights had been a comforting presence as he followed her and now the man unfolded from the cab.

She unlocked then pushed open the front door.

“Go brush your teeth. I’ll be in in a moment.”

Sky ran inside, singing the pop song they’d heard on the radio on the drive home.

She turned, surprised to see Brett leaning against his vehicle. She hadn’t expected him to walk her to the door like they were on a date, neither did she expect him to keep a cool distance.

He peeled himself off when she approached.

Somewhere in the distance a windmill screeched as it rotated.

“Thanks again. I don’t mean to be any trouble.”

“You’re not. I apologize for Hardy.”

“Don’t apologize. You’re not in control of his actions.”

“I hope he didn’t turn you off the town. We’re all usually quite friendly and safe.”

The flat expression on his face belied the “friendly” aspect of his comment. As she drew his masculine scent into her lungs, she questioned “safe” also. Not that she feared for her safety, only that Tall, Dark, and Handsome could probably mess with her heart without even trying.

“Stupid question to ask since you’re grieving, but how are you doing?”

Just like that, his words opened the fountain of emotions she’d been holding back. Her vision blurred and her throat worked.

“It was just so sudden. She wasn’t even sick. She didn’t have any health problems.” She took a shaky breath. “I miss her so much.”

A tear leaked out. She expected him to freak out at the crying chick. Instead, he slowly drew her into his chest, holding her loosely so she could pull away if she wanted. She didn’t. Dani burrowed into him. His hands tightened around her and she took the comfort he provided.

“I’d like to say over time it will get better but that would be a lie. The pain may fade, you might move on with your life, but out of the blue a memory will be triggered and catapult you right back here.”

He sounded as if he spoke from experience. She wouldn’t pry into his life and ask. It was none of her business. She simply held him tighter as if she could heal the broken pieces she sensed rattled inside him.

Brett Marshall was such an enigma. After the way he’d crushed the man’s hand who’d been hitting on her, she hadn’t considered he might have a softer side. Feeling as though she’d taken too much of his time already, she stepped back. His hands dropped to his sides.

Her shoulders slumped. “I think I’m still a bit numb. Probably for the best. I figured I was as tough as they come, but nothing has prepared me for having to clear out her home. I have no clue what to keep or donate. I don’t know what she treasured in life. What if I make the wrong choice? I should’ve tried to visit her instead of making her come to me. She always worked around my schedule.”

“She treasured you and her great-granddaughter. Everything else is immaterial.”

He was right. Nanna valued family and love over objects.

Brett shifted his weight in a move she didn’t associate with his personality. Was he uncomfortable?

“If you’d like, I can come by and help. I can’t guarantee I’d know what not to part with but I can help you make the right decision.”

His offer filled her with joy. It would be nice not to have to do it alone.

“I’ll take you up on that.”

“Done. Will you be all right?”

His concern was touching.

“Sure. I have the best mood booster in the world.”

She glanced toward the house where her daughter brushed her teeth. Toothpaste would be everywhere, without her there to ensure Sky’s electric toothbrush stayed in her mouth.

“I’ll see you tomorrow then.”

“Tomorrow,” she agreed. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Sweet dreams.”

“Same to you.”

When he didn’t budge, it dawned on her that he waited for her to head inside. They must breed gentlemen out here.

As soon as the door closed behind her, the growl of an engine started up. Headlights trailed across her far wall when he arced his Ute around and headed down her driveway, the engine fading.

A smile curved her mouth.

Nanna had not been fibbing about the town.

Call It Home Book 3 of Woollybah Creek
Written by Momof2Rotties on 28th Sep 2023

Camille Taylor has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Daniela (Dani) and Brett. Dani and her daughter Skylar have gone to Woollybah Creek for her grandmother's funeral. Brett is at the funeral when he sees a woman walk up with a little girl to the casket and lay a rose on top of it. After laying the rose, Dani leaves and heads to the reception. After she leaves, talk starts about her and what she is going to do with her grandmother's house. Brett goes to the reception and sees the place has been set up with food and drinks. He gets something to eat and finds a seat up against the wall. He is looking around and sees Dani with her daughter on her lap and she is rocking her. Dani leaves and goes home and puts Skylar down in the first bed she finds. She goes to take a shower and lets the tears flow thinking about her grandmother. After her shower, she goes downstairs and sits in her grandmother's chair. She dozes off and on during the night. She wakes up to the sound of a car door closing. When she opens the door, she sees a woman walking up carrying a little boy. The woman introduced herself as Evie, her next-door neighbor. Evie tells her that if she needs anything to just call her and points to the note on the dish she brought her. Before Evie leaves, another car drives up and it says Cartwright Realty on it. A man gets out walks up to her and introduces himself as Evan Cartwright. He tells her that he is there to buy the property and gives her the amount he is willing to pay. Dani tells him that she is not sure what she is going to do just yet. Evan tells her that the offer is not going to be on the label long. Dani gets mad and tells him to get off her property before she gets mad. Brett goes to check on Dani and they start a friendship. The more time they spend together, the more Dani likes him. Things happen when Dani's boss calls her and tells her that she needs to be back at work in a few days. She tells him that she still has things to do there. He tells her that if she is not there, then he will write her up. She gets mad and tells him that she quits. She had heard a few women say that they wished there was a place to stay while their kids were having their riding lessons since it was a long drive. Dani decides to turn the house into a B&B but doesn't tell anyone what she wants to do. Evan comes back to see her about selling and she tells him that she is not going to sell. Evan gets mad and says some nasty things to her. She does some research and plans to go to the bank for a loan. When she goes to the bank, she is told that they can't help her. Dani goes to the Pub and Brett is there and sees that she is upset. He goes to find out what is wrong. When she tells him what she had planned to do but she can't now since the bank turned her down for a loan, there are a few people in the Pub who tell her that they would invest in the B&B with her. They all help Dani with what needs to be done at the house. They are working on the B&B when Evan shows up again and is shocked by what he is seeing. Dani goes to talk to him and tells him that she is not selling and for him to get off her property. This time she has the community behind her and they are all glad to see Evan go. Dani and Brett have gotten closer and she wants him. He wants her too but thinks that he is too old for her. She told him that she knew what she wanted and it was him. He said that he was old enough to be her father. She told him that age was just a number and it didn't matter to her. Will Brett finally give in to his feelings for Dani? This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

Call It Home!
Written by Mary on 28th Sep 2023

This is a good story and the third story in the "Woollybah Creek" series. It is a stand alone read that is more novella length. It is a small town romance featuring and older man and young single mother. The story off sad and emotional but ends very happily. Dani and Brett are so good for each other. Dani and her daughter sky has come to town. She has just lost her Nanna and is her sole heir. When she goes into town to find food she nearly runs into Brett. He is the big, older and good looking pub owner. Brett rescues her from unwanted attention and then offers his help and support. I like how their story develops. Cartwright is a piece of work and does not waste anytime. I like how the town accepts Dani and Sky.

Loved this
Written by Reensburger on 28th Sep 2023

This was my first time reading this author and after this book I went out and bought the other two stories. I really enjoyed the Australian outback setting and the townsfolk. Brett the grumpy bar owner is everything you want in a book boyfriend and more. Dani and her daughter Sky are in town to busy Danis grandmother and set the house to rights. With a shark realtor circling will Dani go with her heart and sign up for adventure and love in the outback?

Brett and Dani
Written by SeahawkGirl on 28th Sep 2023

This is the third book in the Woollybah Creek series. This story is about Brett, the local pub owner, and Dani a single mom who recently arrived in town after the death of her grandmother. Dani is now in charge of her grandmother's estate and the land is wanted by developers. The town accepts Dani and her daughter and brings them into the close-knit community. Brett and Dani work together to clear her grandmother's home and find themselves falling in love. Brett is older and has hang-ups about their age gap. Dani likes Brett's maturity. She was a teen mom and had been raising her daughter alone. This was a great story. I have thoroughly enjoyed Camille Taylor's work. I highly recommend this book and this series.

Already family
Written by RahiaLeight on 28th Sep 2023

This tale starts off with a bit of a dark cloud that loosens the further the story moves along. By the end, everyone is smiling. There isn't a great conflict to this tale, although I'd say I think that realtor deserved a much harsher response. I loved the way the tale played out, even though part of me was cursing Dani for not speaking up. Still, everything came together so nicely. I thoroughly enjoyed the tale, and I love this little town.
