Hot Alpha Shifters - another favorite!
Since the last ManLove anthology from Evernight [Men in Uniform], I couldn't wait to read the next one. It was through my familiarity with Gale Stanley's work that I even went for the previous read and found some new favorites to read (e.g., James Cox). So of course, when I saw that Stanley and Cox were both included in this anthology, let's say that I had high expectations and every one of them were met. This book is all about alpha shifters who find their mates. So the romantic endings I expected already won me over right there. Every story was fresh and well-told with developed characters packed tight with zero margin for error. In other words, every part of the story forwarded the plot and pulled you right into the character. Once I began the read, only the call of some shut-eye drew me away. I read the rest of the stories as soon as I could the very next day. BULLY BOYS by Nicola Cameron Story takes place in the UK. A numbers man meets an alpha wolf who is defending his territory by an encroaching rival pack. Of course, love is no obstacle--no, not for a man with administrative talents matched with a physically aggressive macho man. A sweet match between a guy in a suit and a guy from the ghetto. THE ALPHA'S ASSASSIN by Doris O'Connor So, this orphan whose occupation as a hired gun has been employed to take down the alpha. His job clashes with his heart when of all people he meets his mate. Both of them are confused because they're not of the same kind. Anyone up for interspecies dating? Edge of my seat - part suspense, part romance, part mystery. DISCARDED PUP by Angelique Voisen An alpha wolf takes the wrap for a crime committed by his beta so he could protect his spineless pack. It's release day, time for retribution. Meanwhile, the beta who has taken charge as the cruel default alpha hasn't deviated from his violent ways. His latest victim? Hmm, could that be the true alpha's mate? The future is bright. YELLOW EYES by Gale Stanley A half-breed has hidden in the shadows of human society far too long. An unexpected death sends him to the other side to explore his other half. None other than an alpha finds him... Heart-tugging story of self-love and acceptance with a big dose of hope for coexistence. DESTINED by L.D. Blakely Betrayed by an ex, Caleb tries to drink his woes away. Only he's quite sure the terror he witnesses right afterward isn't a dream. The only one who can save him is someone whom he doesn't quite trust... Shaky beginnings, sweet ending. TROUBLE by James Cox Kicked out (okay, chased out) of most packs for his philandering ways, Tremarc is the last of his particular species of shifter. He's sleeping around trying to figure things out and lands a one-way ticket to the moon, where he meets an alpha named Lyon and his mate Quinn. Little did the three know what Lyon's dreams had in store for them. Seductive M/M/M fantasy come to life. OUTLAW WOLF by Elizabeth Monvey Dekker is a runaway who chose to do so; he left his mate to protect him and the pack. For six months he'd been successful making a life for himself -- or so he thought -- until his alpha shows up to claim him back. All hell breaks loose when old traditions meet new truths, truths that will set them free. A story of second chances and fresh pathways forward. Overall, another winning collection of short stories from authors that are old and now new favorites. Go ahead and treat yourself GOOD with some BAD alphas. :-)
