As part of his agreement with the pack who’d accepted his mate, Mateo had to do annual visits where he met with the alpha, they talked, and he found out exactly how Harper was doing. No one knew about the visits, not even Harper’s parents.
When he’d banished her, he knew it had been the right thing to do. Slowly, he had felt his wolf start to go crazy, and not only that, he had felt different about abandoning her. He’d talked with the alpha, and it was time for his annual visit when he got an update, and got to even inhale some of Harper’s clothing, to help the beast within him from breaking loose.
He’d gotten her scent on the way over.
The two men at his side, his closest allies, knew what he had to do and why he had to do it. Peter and Damon came to keep him from doing anything stupid. Harper was too damn young to be an alpha’s mate. He couldn’t put her at that kind of risk. Not now, not ever.
She wasn’t old enough or strong enough to deal with pack politics, and some of the females would hurt her. He had no choice but to protect her because she couldn’t look weak. He knew it had been a long time since a pack female was replaced by another stronger female, but he couldn’t allow anyone to go through with that.
Staring across the bar, he saw her, well, he saw the back of her head. She was standing with another woman, blonde, who within seconds led her onto the dance floor, and all too soon she was surrounded by other men and women.
There were a couple of men who’d gotten close to her. He felt the wolf within him start to rise, and it was Peter who grabbed his arm.
“We’re in human territory. You don’t want to run the risk of starting up some horrible rumors, Alpha,” Peter said.
“And we’re already gaining too much attention. We must leave.”
He couldn’t leave the bar, not without talking to Harper. Damn it, even though the scent of alcohol, sweat, sex, and plenty of other human aromas filled his senses, he could still smell Harper.
She was there, and it smelled warm, like cinnamon and apple, but stronger, with a touch of vanilla thrown into the mix. The only problem was, he smelled other men, and his wolf couldn’t handle it.
Breaking out of Peter’s hold, he moved through the crowd. The humans, clearly seeing a man on a mission, stepped out of his way. He broke through the crowd and finally got to look at Harper. The last seven years had aged her well. She no longer looked like a schoolgirl, and he wasn’t happy.
“Hey!” the woman with her gawked at him as he reached for Harper. No one made a move to stop him as he all but dragged her out of the bar.
At first, Harper didn’t react, but it was like she woke up from whatever trance was holding her, and as soon as they were out of sight of the humans, she began to attack. She dug her heels in and jerked her arm.
“Let go of me!” Harper’s strength surprised him, and he had no choice but to let her go or risk hurting her, which was the last thing he wanted to do.
He looked at her and watched as she pushed some hair off her face. Seconds later, the woman she was with, along with the rest of the pack, stood several feet away, but he knew they’d come to protect her.
“Leave,” Harper said.
“You’re not supposed to be here. None of you are,” Mateo said.
Peter and Damon were at his back, and he knew they’d react if he needed them to.
Harper chuckled. “You’re not their alpha. They don’t have to follow your orders.”
He took a step toward her. “I’m your alpha.”
Silence.
Harper glared at him, and then she took one step, followed by another until she stood almost toe-to-toe with him. “Guess again. You banished me, Mateo. You’re not my alpha. I don’t answer to you.”
He grabbed her arms, pulling her in close. He felt such urgency to press his face against her neck, to breathe her in, but he held himself back. His wolf just wanted to throw her to the ground and claim her right there and then, but he kept control. Like always, control was something he knew.
“You’re my mate.”
“No, I’m not. I’m your rejected mate. I’m not yours and I’m never going to be yours.”
I've read a lot of books written by Sam Crescent; she is one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books. This is part of the Alpha Shifter Collection; it is a stand-alone short story. The story is about Harper & Mateo; he has been visiting her pack for seven years since he rejected her and kicked her out of his pack.
This story dealt with so much heavy emotion due to the far-reaching and unforeseen consequences of the 40-year-old Alpha Mateo rejecting his 18-year-old newly shifted mate, Harper. He thinks she’s too young and weak for him, so he has her swiftly banished from everyone she knows and loves. Fast forward 7 years later, Mateo has changed his mind, but Harper and her wolf don’t particularly care. It’ll take a lot of groveling and understanding what he put Harper through all this time before Mateo has a chance in hell at a shot with her. Throw in some delicious spice, a sassy best friend, and a second family that’s got the fmc’s back and it’s *chef’s kiss.* This story not only has a HEA, but an epilogue that flashes forward numerous years to give the reader a peak at how everyone’s life turned out…I always appreciate that addition. This single-sitting standalone with a HEA also has fated mates, first times, a large age gap, and shifting on the full moon.
I love paranormal love stories and this one is awesome. Mateo rejects his mate Harper thinking she's too young. Seven years go by when he decides he needs her and tries to get forgiveness from her. She has been hurt and has to decide whether or not to give in to what she is feeling for him. I highly recommend this book to all paranormal romance readers.
Mateo is Alpha of their pack and it older than Harper but quite a bit. When he realizes that she is his mate he rejects her and tells her family that she is banished from the pack. Harper is hurt but goes where her father sends her to live. Now years later Harper is finally thriving and feels like she belongs. Yet Mateo is ready to let her go and shows up demanding the Alpha send her back with him. Mateo is stunned when he doesn't get his way and ends up having to court Harper to win her forgiveness. Will Harper be able to forgive what he did to her? Can they find a way to be together? This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.
I love Harper!! This book was adorable and I loved that Harper developed beyond the rejection. This was a cute story and I loved how Mateo was willing to do things that go against his normal alpha personality.

Mateo does the unthinkable, he rejects his mate. Years later Harper has her perfect life, and Mateo realizes the depth of his mistake. Sweet, with steamy scenes, it is all about an internal search for forgiveness. I loved it!

These characters have unique personalities, intertwined histories and believable interactions. This well-written story has the following: Alpha's rejection and banishment of his mate, broken female shifter, trust issues, twists, turns, hurt, anger, forgiveness, love, steam and a HEA. A must read for Paranormal Romance Lovers.
Whenever I see there is a new addition to this book series I can never wait to get my hands on it! And I can say I devoured this in one sitting. I couldn't put it down, I just needed to know what would happen next! I enjoyed each interaction between the main characters and the background the author creates with her words! More soon please!
A beautiful shifter story. We are taken on the journey that Mateo and Harper make. At first they do not start well when she is rejected by him, she is devastated. He had rejected her because the age difference is too big and he thought he was doing the right thing. When he finds out that she is a beautiful young woman and not a child woman like he thought, it is too late because he has hurt Harper so much. His wolf urges him to go and get their mate. can he make it right and do they get the hea they both deserve?
Mateo and Harper. She was rejected by her mate and banished because he the alpha didnt want her in his pack. But he didnt reject her because he didnt want her he rejected her because she was too young and naive and his pack would have destroyed her. But he visits her new pack to just get a scent of her and one visit he picks up her scent at a human bar and thats when he lays eyes on her after seven long years and shes not a young girl anymore. And he wants her back. She has a choice to make and life changing choice. Shes not going to make this easy if she gives in at all. She fights him every step of the way. This is a great story of their journey thatsa rollercoaster of a ride. There are some humourous times too with Franny. Loved it.

This year, the mating call is powerful between the two. Will Harper be able to forgive Mateo? Will Mateo be able to grovel, since he is an Alpha.... This was a fun read and great addition to this series.
I loved this one from start to finish. Mateo and Harper are wonderful characters and fated mates. I enjoyed the storyline. was cheering for Harper,
Initially this seemed like a repeat of past books, alpha rejects mate. But this time he didn't just reject her, he banished her. I felt sorry for Harper that Mateo never gave her a chance and like his father, I knew he'd regret it. Seven years later she's happy in a new pack and he still misses her. Serves him right. Some reviews complain she took too long to forgive him but I think she did it right. He had to really work for her forgiveness. I loved how the relationship had time to grow. I feel ultimately they found each other again when it was the right time and their love is stronger for it. There's not any real conflict. It's just a sort of second chance love story and that's fine by me.
I absolutely loved this story!!! A groveling Alpha, a strong FMC, love, heartbreak and mistakes, every ingredient for perfect entertainment. Harper was perfect, I absolutely loved her strength, resilience and her big heart. Matteo needed a bit work to get to like him, but in the end you will close the book happy. 100% recommended if you like rejected fated mates, shifter, grovel and happy ever afters.

So good! I have read other novels in this series by this author and really enjoyed them. This novel did not disappoint. I love a good rejected mate novel and this novel just hit the spot for me. From the first page this novel sucked me in and held on tight until the very last page. My heart hurt for Harper when she was rejected by Mateo. I loved watching them work thru everything in the past. I loved that they were able to get a second chance. I loved their chemistry. Once I started reading I didn't want to put this novel down. I needed to know what was coming next. I can hardly wait to see what this author has coming next.
Story is well paced. No excessive description or additional minutiae. The characters are well drawn and each is easy to sympathize with. The majority of the story is about the MMC realizing and accepting the damage he caused and his path to Redemption. The sex is moderately described and steamy.
I love Sam Crescent’s shifter series and this book is my absolute favorite. I loved the storyline of rejected fated mates second chance romance. The grovel the Alpha MMC did was a chef’s kiss to groveling. The FMC was no doormat either. The characters were complex and had an undeniable and heartbreaking chemistry. I might have had a few years spring free while reading this book. This book had everything I live in tots type of book. The angst, grovel, and spice was on point. I couldn’t put this book down so I could see what would happen next between both characters. Un-put-downable!!!
I love this books, I would like more groveling from his side (I mean they were 7 years), but it was nice to read this love story. I really enjoy reading how she overcome the rejection and made a life for herself, besides all pain that the original rejection made on her, she grew to be an independent woman.
I really like how Harper was able to take her rejection, not only from her pack but also her fated mate, and create a life elsewhere. This shows strength of character and determination. She struggled and forged new friendships and a new future. Her passionate disavowel of Mateo's reappearance only confirms that she is the one in charge of her life.
Wow, what a great read!!! Turning 18 and transitioning for the first time into a wolf is bad enough, let alone discovering that ones fated mate is the much older alpha of your pack, who rejects you on the spot. That is what Willow experienced. The story mainly takes place 7 years later, where we find Willow living with another pack, having grown into a strong independent woman. Mateo, her mate who is visiting her new pack, decides that he made a mistake. What follows is a tale of forgiveness and love with a lot of groveling. :)
Mateo rejected Harper on her 18th birthday and her first shift. What should have been a joyful time for her was a nightmare. He was pretty cruel about it; frankly, it seemed more about him than what was best for her. Rejected by her mate and banished from her pack, Harper makes a good life for herself. She is still angry with Mateo and when he regrets the decision and wants her back, she fights him. I like the story, it was nice to see that Harper wasn't pining away for her mate and didn't immediately go back to him when he decided he was wrong.

This was a good read about how Harper and Mateo navigate their relationship. I liked how feisty Harper was but, if I had been her, then I would have made Mateo grovel more. I did like the Mateo’s transition and how he came to realise what Harper meant to him. I loved the dynamic between the two main characters and was an enjoyable read.
This was an emotional read. Harper is rejected by her mate and sent away when she is 18. Seven years pass and Mateo sees her again and realizes that he made a grave mistake. His rash decision to reject Harper was hastily made but has lasting consequences. Harper has made a life for herself at her new pack. She and her wolf are still angry and hurt. The pain of her rejection was palpable and Mateo had to earn her affection again. This was a beautiful age gap romance. Mateo made a difficult decision while taking Harper’s age into consideration. His methods were harsh but he did not mean to cause the harm that he did. I was happy that he was able to regain Harper’s favor.

As always Sam Crescent has delivered a magnificent read you won’t want to miss out on reading.

I enjoyed the book. I felt so bad for Harper. To be rejected and kicked out of you pack on the same day. Having to leave her parents and everything she knew behind. Mateo was a jerk. He realizes his mistake after several years and tries to win Harper back. Harper finds it hard to forgive. She fights the mate bond because of what Mateo did to her. He does redeem himself. But is it enough for Harper to be able to forgive? Read the book to find out. Very good.

I loved the chemistry and characters. The way the H treated her was horrible and the fact he didn’t consider the consequences was equally bad. But when he realized it and made full circle it was just…an ahhh moment.

I enjoyed this new alpha shifter slow burn story. It is a fairly short and quick read about Mateo and Harper. At eighteen, on the night of Harper's first shift she finds her fated mate. Only her rejects her and banishes her to another pact. Mateo, the alpha, rejects her for several reasons but one because she is much younger than him. This is a slow burn about how Mateo regrets his decisions and tries to bring Harper home. What he does not realize, is she has grown strong and independent. She is not going to be easily swayed or won over. I enjoyed their story and love how they grow through the story. I hope we get Franny's story.
When Harper finally transitions into her wolf, she finds her mate. The only issue is her mate, Mateo, is the Alpha of the pack and he rejects her. He rejects her out of a sense of duty to protect her since he is older and she is too innocent. Even though he does this to protect her, it causes her pain nonetheless and she is forced to leave the pack. Years later, Harper is a grown woman living her life as she wants when Mateo shows back up. He’s always regretting his decision and hopes she’ll give him another chance. It may have been too late though, Harper is living a new life and Mateo is going to have to work really hard to earn back her trust. Good book. A slow burn, second chance romance with a twist. Very entertaining and emotionally engaging.

Harper is devastated when Mateo rejects her. Her first shift and her first heartbreak all rolled into one. A great day to remember. NOT! Mateo thought he was doing a good thing, their age gap so significant. He needed an alpha female not a near-child to rule with him. When he realizes she has grown into a comely woman his wolf stands up and takes notice. He wants his mate and he'll walk through fire if it will bring her back to his side. A steamy AF shorty with great characters. I love how Franny is Harper's fiercest supporter, even in the faces of two alpha males. She loves Harper and not will see her hurt, even by her so-called mate. I love that Mateo actually put in the work to earn Harper's affection. A good wolfish read.
This was a very good story. It was slow going but got better as you went along. I loved the story of Mateo and Harper, started kind of rough at the beginning with Mateo rejecting Harper ad his mate. It was sad at first but then you realize he did it because of their age difference, so it made sense. Then 7 years later and he realizes what he is missing. Great story last half.

This was a great story! Harper just turned 18 and transitioned for the first time. Mateo is the alpha of the pack and is shocked to find that Harper is his mate. He wants no part of her and banishes her from the pack. Years later, Harper has found her place in a new pack and while it still hurts that her mate rejected her, she has moved on as much as she could. Her friend Franny, is a hoot! I loved her so much and she was a great friend to Harper. Suddenly, Mateo is there and Franny protects her friend. He had realized that he messed up big time back then and now he wants to make amends but it's going to take a LOT to get Harper back. Loved the grovel and loved that while Mateo's father had his back, he also told him that HE had to be the one to fix the problem with his mate! I would love to see Franny get a story in the future because she was so funny!! This is just another wonderful story by Sam Crescent and I highly recommend it!
Mateo didn’t think Harper was strong enough to be his mate. Even worse Harper was so much younger than him. How could she be his mate. When Harper is banished, he believes that he can control his wolf. But things take a major turn because time has shown him he has made a terrible mistake. Harper couldn’t understand why her mate would want her gone. When she finally finds her place with a new pack, she finds happiness till Mateo returns. Ok, Mateo did screw up. I get the reason, she was too young. But to reject her and banish her was stupid. Thank goodness she found a pack that would love her. It was a matter of getting her wolf and herself to even think about forgiving him. Do I think she should have make him sweat a lot more, sure. But I always say you have to let go of the past to move forward. Harper was the best. She came stronger and independent. Something that she might not have been able to have if she was to become mated so early. You root for Harper all the way through the story and love the gravelling from Mateo. But in the end Harper found her place and opened her heart again. Excellent story.
I loved this new story in the Alpha Shifter Collection. It delivers an age-gap, "don't want her but can't leave her alone" slow-burn love story of Harper and Mateo. Harper won't put up with Mateo thinking she will just run into his arms when he thinks she is now suitable to be his mate as she is older. A great read!
I am always waiting for the new book.... She just has her first turn...she is happy a to add to it she find her mate...but ...he is her alpha...it should be OK.. but he reject her... and she doesn´t know why.. and to humilate her more..he banis her from pack.. Mateo find his mate..but she is barely legal..and hi is much older..so he banish her from pack..but seven years later...when he is in anual meet with her new alpha he meets her in bar...and...she is much changed...but can he change past?
This was of course such a wonderful read and I did not want the story to end. Mateo and Harper were mated with a huge age gap (that was the only issue I had with the book) but alas Mateo refused to mate with Haper. He had a very valid concern regarding her age and therefore sent her away. Harper didn't just fall for Mateo when the tide turned and he decided he was ready to claim his mate. This was a good short steamy read and I loved that the MFC made him work for her forgiveness. I loved that she built herself up after being devastated and refused to just accept his apology. This was a really good read and I enjoy most of this author's work. Highly highly recommend and just hope I didn't somehow miss Franny's story.

Hannah Shen was 18 years old when not only was she in her first transition to her wolf but she found out that the alpha Mateo Fox was her fated mate. Mateo rejected Hannah and forced her out of their pack because he thought she was to young (she was much younger than him). Hannah's Dad got her to the Silver pack and she built a life for herself and is happy. Seven years have past and Mateo who has been popping in to check on Hannah throughout the years has decided he wants his mate. I like how Hannah did not give in but made Mateo work for her love, and trust.
I love this series of standalone shifter books. This was one of my favorites so far. Seven years ago Mateo rejected Harper as his mate and kicked her out of the pack. Harper found solace with another pack and has gradually built her life into something she is proud of. Mateo is visiting Harper's pack when he realizes how much he wants her to be his mate. She has grown up and matured enough to handle being his mate. Harper has no interest in a second chance with the wolf that rejected her and almost broke her. Mateo stays around and tries to show Harper he is serious about them having a future together. I liked this book because Harper did not immediately excuse Mateo's behavior and fall into his arms. She made him work for her forgiveness.

I do enjoy a rejected mates sorry. In this we have Mateo who is the alpha of their pack and Harper who has just found out she’s his mate but because of her age, he rejects her but doesn’t stop there, banishes her as well. It’s juicy, it’s angsty and if you love a good ole bulldozing with your alpha men then this one is for you.
The closing chapter was truly moving. I especially appreciated the way the MFC reflected on her difficult past. It was painful, yet it also provided her with the opportunity to mature into the person she was destined to become. Her best friend was an incredible source of emotional strength and support, and the MCs owed her a tremendous debt for their happiness. As for the Alpha, I was relieved to see him come to terms with his actions and seek redemption.
well written, full of drama, love, steam, romance, mistakes, intrigue, twists and wolves. Mateo is an Alpha wolf that has been mated with Harper but refuses to mate her. He sees her as too young and that the older females would destroy her so he banishes her. So he sends her away to another pack but does keep track of her. Seven years later he decides that he wants her back and goes to her to try to get her back. Harper rejects him but with the help from her and they talk thru the mess he caused. Mateo decides to stay with her new pack and work thru all the stuff that they feel and the hurt he caused. Both experience what they feel and how to deal with the love they have. Loved the epilogue- it was great to see how they did 7 years later. Would recommend to others.
Matteo discovers his mate on her first shift and because she is 18 and almost half his age has a knee jerk reaction and banishes her. Harper is devastated and spends the next seven years angry at what happened to her and hating her mate. When Matteo sees her after seven years he knows he has to fix this and get his mate back. It’s a long uphill battle to win her back and frankly I think she was justified in her reactions. Love his path to redemption and learning what his choices caused. This makes their HEA even sweeter.
This was a wild reading ride that really had me feeling all the anger, sadness and trauma of Harper being rejected by her fated mate, alpha Mateo. He made assumptions and was incredibly selfish in why he rejected and banished her, and gave her no opportunity to challenge those assumptions, biggest being her age. Harper made a new life, a successful life, in a new pack but it was hard. When he finally decides he can't live without her, get this: seven years later!, he's blown away at her strength of rejection of him. Ha! I really felt her pain and angst that initially overshadowed her attraction to him. And I love that the author had him grovelling so hard. He had no clue how to make any kind of recompense for what he did to her but with some help, he started as best he could. Thankfully, that led them to a hot HEA but it was quite the journey for them ;D
Entertaining Read! Mateo had made the biggest mistake of his life seven years ago when he rejected his mate. Only now when he was ready to claim what was his was he finding out how devastated she had been and that winning her back may not ever happen! A wonderful story that will take you to the highs and lows of love as Mateo fights for the love of his mate and redeem himself to make his mate and her wolf trust in him enough to claim the HEA that should have happened years ago!

In this story Mateo Fox is the Alpha of the Fox Pack. At forty he should be ecstatic to fund his mate but when he realises his mate is Harper Shen and eighteen year old, young newly transitioned wolf he panics and does not believe that at her age she could handle being the Alpha's mate so he sends her away from her pack. Her parents arrange for her to stay at the Silver Pack where after some time to heal and with the support of her best friend Franny she starts to recover from her devastation of being separated from her mate and begins to flourish in her own right and makes a name for herself within the new pack. It has taken seven long years and even though Mateo has visited the pack to see her the distance has hurt them both. Mateo now wants his mate and is ready to claim her but can she forgive him for sure poor treatment. This was a really well written story, I enjoyed the characters how Harper grew and became the woman she was meant to be and Mateo how he realised the huge mistake he made and set about fixing it. The story flowed well and naturally and had some great banter between the characters and some smexiness. All in all another great addition to a thoroughly loved series. Happy Reading.
